We feed them 24x7…365 days

House of Hope provides six-time meals a day, 365 days to 105 children. Children with the HIV infection are put on a special protein-rich diet to meet their extra requirement.  They are monitored monthly for weight gain and frequency of infections, like respiratory, gastro intestinal and other related infections. However, feeding 105 children with their special requirements is a challenge till date for HUT. HUT looks forward to your continued support for feeding these children with a nutritionally rich and balanced food. (Please click here to donate now)

We treat them…

Dr. Raja and his wife, Dr. Indhra, ensure quality medical care is offered to these children. Every child under their care, is screened and undergo regular pediatric care, including immunization, nutritional care, and management of minor ailments and OI. We link them with the government AIDS care set up program for regular CD4 check- ups (once in six months for the HIV children), acquiring antiretroviral medicines (the life-saving, expensive medicine for AIDS), and testing for non-HIV children from HIV families. We maintain a separate medical record (case sheet) for each child both HIV positive and negative.

We educate them…

Our school, located inside the campus, serves children till the age of 13 (VIII Grade). We offer quality, holistic education, along with life skill training and vocational education to increase the self-employment opportunities. Our education for these HIV infected and orphaned children from disadvantaged communities also aims at acquiring knowledge, skills, habits, attitudes and values necessary for a successful performance of their responsibilities as citizens. We provide them with an opportunity to acquire school education and thus mitigate the adverse impacts of child labor breeding in the area. We additionally work towards avoiding any school drop-outs.

As the current school is only recognized under the alternative system of education, and has the local-language as the medium of instruction, we are building an English-medium school for these children starting from year 2016. The new school will have English as its medium of instruction and will help these children become competent in the language. This will enable them to get a good job in their later lives. The idea came from our experiences with the elder kids in the orphanage, who find it difficult to continue their higher studies as the instruction medium differs.

Currently, we are looking for sponsors to help us construct classrooms for the English-medium school for these orphan children at Perambalur (To support the construction of the English Medium School for these homeless orphaned children, click here)

We counsel them...

We counsel the students to tackle their problems. Our staff, with Master’s degree in social work, are there to provide psychosocial support to the children.  Our staff is trained for child counseling and uses various child counseling tools to motivate the kids to develop a daily routine time table. Elder children (in 5th, 8th and 9th standard) are trained as leaders to teach and support the younger ones during day-to-day activities, including eating, playing and studying to encourage peer learning and support. We support them with bereavement counseling as well.

We go out to reach them…

We have developed an outreach team consisting of trained health workers who periodic follow up with the children who are mainstreamed back to the community and with the HIV families of the children if there is anyone alive. This ensures extension services to all the children. The outreach staff visits the families and AIDS-affected parents at their houses, to impart home palliative-based care to the ill parents.
